Presidents Report

From "On Common Ground" Issue 29/2009 (Dec)

Hi Everyone and I hope that this edition of ‘On Common Ground’ finds you well.

I would like to start by acknowledging all the support we have received from our Sponsors during the year. I thank you for your contribution and we look forward to continuing our great working relationship.

I would also like to thank the STA Committee for their hard work and the hours they put in to make this association work.

2009 has been a great year for STA. We have received a lot recognition as an Association making a difference in the industry. We took a different approach with some of our events during the year and they certainly paid off. The move to Ryde TAFE for our Sydney Seminar was a welcomed one and one in which we will continue in the future. Kurri Kurri TAFE remains a fantastic venue for our Regional Seminar and one event that we all enjoy getting away for. We appreciate the support we get from both Ryde and Kurri Kurri TAFE. They are great facilities producing the future generations of our industry.

I believe that 2010 will see STA grow from strength to strength. We have a very full calendar planned starting with our annual Golf Day to be held at Strathfield Golf Course. A little while back we were asked to be part of the Turf 10 Conference and Expo by the Turf Producers Association. So our Sydney Seminar will be incorporated in this event and we are very excited about this 2 day conference, expo and race day. It will be huge.

We have also been involved in the planning of the Sports Turf Stream of the AGCSA conference in June on the Gold Coast. This will be a great opportunity to promote STA in Queensland. On that note, I would like to congratulate the committee in QLD who have worked hard to get up and running during 2009. Through the guidance of people like Mal Caddies and Matt Roche they will grow quickly.

An exciting new event for STA in 2010 will be a Cricket Wicket Seminar run over 2 days at Blacktown Olympic Park. This event will include hands-on practical demonstrations of wicket preparation.

I would like to acknowledge the support of the various other associations in the Turf Industry that we have been working with during the year. Whilst at times we may be competition for each other, we are all trying to achieve the same thing - Promotion of a strong industry recognised for its professionalism.

To our members who continue to support and be part of this Association I thank you. We have members from all aspects of the Turf Industry and we hope that you have benefited from being a member of STA. I look forward to catching up with you in 2010 and for those of you who can take a break over the Christmas/New Year period - enjoy it!
