New South Wales & ACT
Welcome to the website for the Sports Turf Association, NSW Incorp & ACT Incorp

The Sports Turf Association in NSW has been operating in NSW since the Year 2000, previously known as the Turfgrass Association of Australia (TGAA). The ACT Region have been operating for many years and in November 2011 agreed to a name change to STA ACT.

The purpose of the Association is: To provide support, networking opportunities and education to the Turf Industry. STA now operates in QLD and New Zealand as well. Whilst operating under a different name, we are proudly associated with other TGAA regions throughout Australia. We invite you be involved with our association, developed specifically for you and your work environment. Our existing members are from a variety of sports turf venues including; sports stadiums, golf courses, bowling greens, private schools and councils.

2012 - An Exciting Year for STA

Firstly, Happy New Year everyone and we hope the Christmas / New Year period was a good one.

STA ACT: At the end of 2011, the Committee of TGAA ACT held a meeting and voted to change their name to 'STA ACT' in line with NSW and QLD. They will be working closely with NSW to help strengthen sponsorship and events.
Membership and Sponsorship will amalgamated and co-ordinated at the NSW office. The NSW Committee are pleased to be able to join forces and work towards a stronger more united association.

So welcome aboard ACT Members.

So what does this amalgamation mean to our members?

All ACT and NSW members will receive information on events held in both regions giving the more options for education and social events. It will allow us to share information and resources and provide a more extensive magazine.

Our Sponsor Members will now be able to promote their products and services to a larger number of members of the sports turf industry.

Each region will still run events and general operations independently and have their own commmittees.

Welcome STA New Zealand

The inaugural Sports Turf Graduate of the Year Award was won by Rebecca Dynon from Victoria. Congratulations to Rebecca for such a strong presentation and commitment to the industry. As this was the first time for this award it was amazing to see the quality of applicants. So much dedication and passion - the future of our industry is in very safe hands.
Many thanks to the award sponsors Toro Australia and particularly Rob Rein for his support throughout the award process.

QLD Floods

As we all get back to work and prepare for a busy year at STA NSW our thoughts are with our fellow industry workers in QLD & VIC who have suffered through the dreadful floods.

The photo below sends a chill down the spine of any Greenkeeper and Sports Fan. Suncorp Stadium was never designed for water sports!

President's Report

From "On Common Ground" Issue 32/2010

As you may or may not be aware, I have recently been elected to hold the position of President for the 2010/2011 calendar year.

As this is my first report as President, it brings an era to an end. As you know, Graeme Logan stepped down as President and has decided to take his long service leave after 10 very distinguished years as President of the inaugural NSW TGAA and leading us to what has now become the STA NSW.

Without speaking on behalf of Graeme, I am sure he would like to acknowledge the commitment of the committee members, past and present, that have also contributed to the success of the association.

It is my honour to hold this position after being nominated for it by the current committee and I only hope that I can continue to lead the association with the commitment that has been shown in the past.

The only other change on the committee from our AGM, Dave McGlynn stepped down from his committee position. I would like to thank Dave for his commitment over the past years and feel safe in knowing that his help is only a phone call away. Stepping into the breach is Ryan Buttel who joins us from Wentworthville Leagues Club. We hope that Ryan will be a long standing member of our committee.

I would like to thank all our delegates and sponsors who attended our Cricket Wicket Seminar at Blacktown Olympic Park. We have had nothing but positive comments and reaction to this event and we would like to think we could continue along the same path with our future educational events.

Speaking of events, our Sportsman’s Charity Lunch was held at ANZ Stadium on Friday, 12 November commencing with pre lunch drinks held on the ground. I would like to thank all of our sponsors and members who attended. This event was a celebration of 10 years as an association.

I look forward to catching up with everyone in 2011.
Cheers,
Chappo
